Does Washtenau have a gopher control program? If not what is the best way to eliminate them from my lawn?

Expert Response

Dear William,

Thank you for using Michigan State University Extension Ask Extension with your lawn question. Gophers are rarely seen in Michigan, because they don't really like cold weather.  With climate changes we can expect to see more of them in southern Michigan regions. More common are woodchucks, chipmunks, ground squirrels, moles, voles, and mice. All of which can do damage to lawns.
MSU Extension and counties do not have programs to help homeowners with these animals in your yard.  you can hire a professional or manage this wildlife issue on your own.  Here are some resources for managing them. Managing pocket gophers and managing moles use very similar approaches.  this allows you to manage for both at the same time.
