This would be a very good time to use that new system. Grass does a lot of growing in the cool season of fall with daytime temps between 55 and 75 degrees. A good soaking once a week is better than frequent light waterings. I suggest 1 inch of water once a week through October. Allen, I don't have enough information to make a top soil or fertilizer recommendation. A soil test will give you direction as to if it is needed. Here is a link with information on why and how to do a soil test. https://extension.umn.edu/managing-soil-and-nutrients/soil-testing-lawns-and-gardens
The lawn calendar shows that you can apply fertilizer until Mid-October. You won't likely get soil test results before mid-October so applying some high nitrogen fertilizer (perhaps 27-0-3 or similar) would be fine. Be sure to water before and after applying.
Fescue lawn types are best for shady areas. Here is a link for more information for you to decide what best fits your needs and wants. https://extension.umn.edu/lawn-care/buying-turfgrass-seed-minnesota-lawns
Hope this helps.
