Fungi in my lawn? #890086
Asked November 20, 2024, 1:00 PM EST
For the first time this year we have had this disgusting stuff growing in part of our lawn. We have lived here for 28 years and have never seen anything like this before. It covers an area about 15’ x 30’. How can we get rid of it? I used the Picture This app and it said it was some kind of fungi.

Good Morning Leah,
Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.
I agree the issue is fungi. Fungi grow on dead wood. Did this area have dead tree roots under it in the past? In the cool and wet fall weather, fungi will appear.
