Dormant grass seeding #890195

Asked November 22, 2024, 5:51 PM EST

We are considering putting down some grass seed before winter but someone told us it would not work if we are planning on using a crabgrass preventer in the spring. Any ideas what we should do? We have bare spots in our lawn which need help and it seems we are getting more and more and more crabgrass every year

Hi Tom,

 Here is a link to look at;

You can't use any pre-emergent if you dormant seed however. The trick is to hand weed the crabgrass as soon as you see it emerge making sure you get ALL the roots.

I suggest you look at a variety of plant species.

I planted creeping thyme in my most difficult lawn spots and it thrived with no care ( no watering )and I can mow over it, I just put my mover on the higher setting. I love it, it smells wonderful and is really pretty in the lawn and not too aggressive.

I hope this is helpful,
