Anthurium With brown leaves #890229

Asked November 24, 2024, 1:14 PM EST

I thought it was sunburned so I moved it to a place with less light than another place with even less light but the trouble persists. I don’t see any sign of insect damage.

This does not look like a sunburn (too much light) issue, so you can put the plant back where it gets good light so it can stay vigorous. We've seen similar symptoms before, but can't determine what exact pathogen or environmental conditions are responsible (aside from not being light intensity). If you mist the foliage with water, discontinue as wet leaf surfaces tend to be easier for spores (fungal and bacterial) to infect. There is no treatment for leaf infections that might already have begun, so if a given leaf with damage deteriorates, you can snip it off to reduce the risk of spread. Over- and under-watering can also lead to bud blast (buds for foliage or flowers that die before opening normally), and low ambient humidity could also be a factor. If a drained pot sits on a saucer to catch drips, make sure it's emptied promptly after watering so the pot doesn't sit in a puddle of water, which could seep back into the potting mix and potentially keep roots too wet. (Stressed or dying roots will lead to dying foliage and new growth.) Let the potting mix get somewhat dry to the touch for about an inch down into the container before watering so the roots have a chance to air out between soakings.
