Advice needed on Tree of Heaven! #890230
Asked November 24, 2024, 1:49 PM EST
I have three 20-feet tall Trees of Heaven growing too close to my back porch. They are on public property, behind the black iron fence. (The white railing in the photo is my deck, for reference.) During the summer, their leaf canopies extended onto my porch past the white railing. It's time for them to go!
Is it too late in the year to hack and squirt? I've read July through October is the best time due to root transport.
What's the best way to deal with this? Thank you!

Your first step would be to find out whose property the trees are growing on?
If it is a Columbia Association property, you can contact CA Open Space to report and ask if they can help with treating them.
You are correct on the timing of the treatment, so yes, it is
too late for hack-n-squirt treatment for this year, because the ideal time is late summer until early fall, when the tree is actively sending energy into the root system as opposed to the leafy canopy.
