Expert Response

The bark and trunk base looks normal and healthy in the photos, but to properly assess if a tree is in decline or has a health risk, it should be evaluated by a certified arborist or licensed tree expert. They can help to make a diagnosis as well as look for sources of tree stress that might be able to be addressed. Arborists can't reverse tree decline or cure every ailment, but they can look for indications of root problems, wood-boring insects, infections, lightning damage, and other factors.
